Eyelid Aesthetics

Eyelid Aesthetics

Eyelid aesthetics or blepharoplasty is one of the most common facial surgical interventions. With this operation, the excess skin on the upper and lower eyelids and the bagged appearance around the eyes are corrected.

How is the surgical process?

Lower and upper eyelid surgeries differ significantly from each other. An excess of skin on the upper eyelid is at the forefront, while bags around the eyes on the lower eyelid are usually a bigger problem. Both surgeries can be performed at the same time, and only upper or lower valve surgery can be performed according to the patient's needs. On the upper lid, the operation scars are hidden so that they fit inside the skin fold, while on the lower lid, the scars are made one or two mm below the lash line. Lower or upper eyelid operations are generally long-term track-free operations.

How do the operation and postoperative process like?

Only the upper eyelid surgery is usually performed only under localanesthesia. In combined operations on the lower and upper eyelids, general anesthesia may be preferred. Operations on the lower or upperlid take about 1 hour, and combined operations on the lower and uppereyelids take about 1.5 hours.

What are the conditions that prevent surgery?

In patients who smoke, it is necessary to stop smoking at least 2 weeks before the operation to heal the wound and reduce possible complications.

Discontinuation or regulation of medications in patients taking blood medications such as aspirin, coumadin is performed after consultations with the relevant department doctors.

Since some of the herbal medicines or nutritional supplements that have been used extensively recently can also cause increased bleeding during surgery, these medicines or nutritional supplements are also necessarily questioned and the use of those who are not considered suitable is stopped.

If there are complaints of dry eyes, eye pressure, and similar visual complaints, the patient necessarily undergoes a detailed examination, additional consultations, and the operation can be postponed if necessary.

What are the obstacles to surgery?

In smokers, it is necessary to quit smoking at least 2 weeks before the operation in order to reduce wound healing and possible complications.

What is the healing process and what are the possible risks?

After the operations, the patient can return to his home and social life on the same day. Swelling and bruises that develop in about a week will heal. Evaluation of the final result of the operation takes place 1 to 3 months. Like all surgical procedures, unexpected complications may develop after eyelid surgeries, but they are very rare. Minor bleeding wound healing disorders can also occur, although rarely, but they also often do not require intervention.

The complete closure of the eyelids after the operation develops frequently due to edema and returns to normal after the first week.
